We offer a variety of small, personal weaving classes. If you see a class that you would like to take but it is not
scheduled or at a time that you can’t come please email Robin to schedule a class.
Fall 2022: I started to offer virtual classes in 2021, but it seems difficult to offer the kind of class I like to present.
The exception is our Wednesday Weavers—Zoom is great for that! And we throw in a few in-person activities as well.
Turn Back Time with Turning Tablets: Intro to Tablet Weaving
Turn Back Time with Turning Tablets: Intro to Tablet Weaving
Learn the ancient craft of weaving with tablets/cards by recreating a 9th Century band from Norway. In this introductory class you will learn how to create a warp and thread the cards, how to read the pattern, and get started on your band. We will also touch on some history around your piece and how to navigate the nuances you will come across as you continue to explore the world of tablet weaving. This style of weaving does not require a loom and there are many DIY options that can be used. If you already have an inkle or other band loom you will want to bring that for use. Other options are two C-clamps or other peg system that allows them to be placed at different distances, a Schact Cricket without the heddle, or if you are already experienced with backstrap weaving you may do that. If you would like further explanation or other ideas feel free to email me at manekeyneko@gmail.com.
Class materials will include your own set of tablets and a selection of hemp yarns from which you may choose your colors.Feel free to bring a small shuttle but if you do not have one small enough it is not necessary.
Class scheduled: June 5, 10-4 - Will be open for sign-up April 1.
