The deep purple, almost black hollyhock flowers dye in beautiful shades of blue/green. I grow more than I can use myself so I harvest and dry them to share with others. Plants are grown with no chemical fertilizer or pesticide.

Packets include 13 grams dried flowers and brief instructions. Based on the recipe recommended by Rebecca Burgess in Harvesting Color of 20 flowers to dye 2-1/2 ounces of yarn, this 13 grams will dye 4 ounces of yarn.

The photos show that each packet will dye much more than 4 ounces of fiber. I dyed in two pots simultaneously. I have two different styles of the dark purple hollyhock—a regular flower and one I call frilly. The flowers are the same color but the appearance of the flowers and the leaves are quite different. Photo of the yarn shows the results of using successive dye pots.
