Sulphur Cosmos Flowers, Dried for Dye
Sulphur Cosmos Flowers, Dried for Dye
Sulphur Cosmos flowers dye in vibrant shades of gold and orange. I grow more than I can use myself so I harvest and dry them to share with others. Plants are grown with no chemical fertilizer or pesticide.
Packets include 21 grams dried flowers, the equivalent of 4 ounces of fresh flowers, and brief instructions. At a 1:1 ratio of fresh flowers to fiber, the packet would dye 4 ounces of fiber. Many sources suggest a ratio of 1:3 or 1:5 of fresh flowers to fiber.
The photos show that each packet will dye much more than 4 ounces of fiber. I dyed in two pots simultaneously. One pot used fresh flowers and one used the equivalent of dried flowers. Photo of the yarn shows each of those skeins paired together for successive dye pots.
