Awards for Weaving

I have told everyone here to head over to my other blog for more up-do-date news. I have three posts so far about the recent Black Sheep Gathering. Third day has links to the first two days.

This post here is all about bragging rights. This has been a season of awards.

It started with entries at Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival in May. Jacob sheep were the featured breed this year and I wanted to be represented even though I couldn’t take sheep there. I sent woven pieces instead. This black and white pinwheel shawl won the special Jacob award.

There was also a special award for my Jacob blanket.

At the Jacob Sheep Breeders Annual Meeting at the Estes Park Wool Market in June my yearling ram, Meridian Turbo, won Champion ram. Don’t you love the special ribbons with spots?

I took Turbo in the Sheep Lead class where I focused on “all wool, all the time” and was awarded the top ribbon for the Wool class.

Two weeks later I was at Black Sheep Gathering in Oregon.

Farm Club member and creator of Heritage Fiber, Ryan, and I winning the top awards in the Spinners Lead of Black Sheep Gathering. He won for non-sheep owner and I won for sheep-owner. It was great to have our two Jacob wool projects get top awards!

We have two more events to finish out the year. The California State Fair is at the end of July and Lambtown is in October. I don’t want to sound greedy, but I may look forward to more awards at those events!
