Fleece Preview Farm Day

Yesterday was our annual Fleece Preview Day. This is when Farm Club members are invited to check out all the fleeces on-the-hoof prior to shearing next weekend. They get first pick! (Shearing Day Info)We also make sure all the eartags are legible and match up to the numbers on the cards that will go into the bags.

Frosty grass with early morning light.

The last two mornings have been noticeably different because there is the crunchy sound of frost instead of the squishy sound of standing water.

This is just some of the crew that was here to look at fleeces. Others worked on barn organization and entertaining Ginny (the dog).

There were so many pretty fleeces and it didn’t make sense to take photos of them all. I’ll share a few.

We really were working and not just standing around talking the whole time. But we always have fun together!

The rams were last. We caught all of them and I took the opportunity to trim Silverado’s horn that was too close to his neck.

I trimmed just enough so that it wouldn’t start rubbing his skin.

Another photo I took this morning. Thorn is a ram lamb is not yet a year old. Look how long that fleece is!

After this morning’s chores. Some of the sheep are out of the photo.
