Rain

Our annual rainfall average is about 24”. Five inches in 2 days is a fifth of what we get all year. We live in the flat land and there is no where for that water to go, at least not right away.

Yesterday’s total on top of the previous day’s 1.5”.

Here’s what it looks like near the barn.

The dogs didn’t care.

I really have nothing to complain about because all of this is minor compared to what real flooding is like. I am not complaining about rain after experiencing those drought years where we had to irrigate in January (and I was lucky to have that option). I’m grateful that we have space for all our animals even if they are crowded into small quarters temporarily.

I wonder if all the rats have drowned. The ground is waterlogged and the tunnels have to be filled with water.

I walked down the road to the dirt road where I take the dogs. The canal is certainly running high.

This is the other direction, just south of our property. Our ditch runs into this canal. The culvert where our water drains is under the water level right now. We’re getting more rain today and for the next several days. Lake Berryessa is almost full and that’s a good thing.
