Ophelia- Jacob Fleece

$64.00

We sheared 77 Jacob sheep January 19, 2025. Only the cleanest fleeces are posted here for sale. This is the first fleece is from Ophelia, a 1-year-old Jacob ewe. The sample fleece is photographed on a 4” x 6” card to give you an estimate of fleece length.

Notes about Ophelia’s fleece:
The skirted fleece weighs 3.75 pounds.
Dark wool is a brownish “lilac” (see below).
Britch wool is not removed.

Read info below about the fleeces I offer for sale. Refer to this FAQ for ideas about using your Jacob fleece.

Fleeces have been lightly skirted to remove the less desirable wool around the edges. The sheep are not coated so there may be bits of vegetable matter. Any VM is not burrs or stickers but usually alfalfa so most shakes out as the fleece is processed. Jacob sheep often have a coarser wool on the lower part of the back leg. If that wool is significantly coarser than the rest you may want to sort it out and use it for a project where coarser fiber doesn’t matter or is even preferred.

The tips of the fleece may appear brown. That is from sun-bleaching. The inner part of the staple is usually black unless it is from a sheep with “lilac” coloring. Go to this blog post to see photos of black and white and lilac Jacob sheep.
