Jacob Wool Roving
Jacob Wool Roving
Jacob sheep are spotted so you get two or more colors from the same fleece. I sort the colors into distinct black and white. I am left with bits of white and black that can’t be sorted. That all gets carded into gray. Some Jacob sheep are “lilac”. Lilac Jacob sheep have gray facial markings and their fleece is a brown-gray color. I process the light and dark wool of lilac fleeces all together.
Jacob wool is some of the easiest that you will ever spin and this batch that was processed by Valley Oak Mill is no exception.
Order in increments of 4 or 8 ounces of white, black, two shades of gray, lilac, or a mix. If you order the mix I will pull off all five colors together as shown in the photo. The yarn photo shows an example of the yarn if you hold black, gray, and white fiber together and let the colors spin randomly.
Our Jacob sheep are selected for their fleece and Jacob breed characteristics, and we take pride in our reputation for producing top quality wool. A quote from a happy customer:
"I just received my fiber shipment today....it is absolutely gorgeous, some of the loveliest Jacob I've ever seen."
”I am spinning the Jacob roving that I purchased from you and just had to let you know how much I am enjoying it. I thought that I would spin it short draw but it had other ideas and is flying through my fingers in a supported long draw. The yarn is going to have character! I will certainly be a return customer.”
Note: The sheep are not coated and the black fiber has sun-bleached tips that add a brown cast to the black.
I have the passport stickers for the Livestock Conservancy’s Shave Em to Save Em program so email me if you want me to include one.
