L411 Spotted Lambskin

$295.00

Luxurious and soft lambskins! Perfect for bare feet in the morning, on a cold chair or a hard bench, under the sheet in bed or in baby's crib, or in your car. Replace your old under-the-sleeping-bag-pad with a thick, warm lambskin the next time you go camping. Some people swear that these lambskins have medicinal properties - maybe it's just that snuggling into a soft, cozy lambskin is so comforting and relaxing. Lambskins make great wedding or baby gifts.

Details about Lambskin L411:

  • Lambskin is from one of our Jacob lambs that was harvested for meat.

  • Lambskin tanned at Living Sky in Indian Valley, Idaho, using a natural and chemical-free method.

  • Approximate measurements of the leather side:
Side to side across middle: 19.5”
Leg tip to leg tip: 24”
    Neck to tail: 35”
Neck to end of leg: 38”

  • Thick soft wool. This one is a “lilac”, a Jacob color that is more brown/gray than black..

  • Fleece is not combed so looks natural with crimp evident in the wool.

  • Leather back is a cream / tan color. It is sturdy, yet flexible.

  • Lambskin may be cleaned by vacuuming and shaking, and wool can be spot washed. Hide may be machine washed following instructions Below and in FAQ.

  • See below for more information about the tanning process and care.

Hides with L in front of the number were tanned by Living Sky.
From Living Sky about tanned hides:

”Quality tanned by hand in our family’s on farm tannery. Beautifully unique with a story to tell… Our tannery produces some of the finest sheepskin in the country. All hides originate here on the farm or from other farms and butchers in the western United States. We hand-craft without the use of harsh chemicals.”
Care instructions from
Living Sky:
If at all possible we recommend spot washing your hides. Should they need to be laundered, do not use the dry cleaner. Send them back to the tannery for a $20.00 wash charge or follow the instructions on our washing handout (next paragraph). Email Living Sky. We are not responsible for the outcome of hides laundered out of our care.

These skins are natural, untreated wool and leather and are machine washable. Wash your hide using a cool wash at 85 degrees. If that is not an option then use the wool/hand wash cycle. Use a gentle detergent. When the cycle is finished give the rug a quick and gentle shake, if there is still water in it give it another spin in the machine. Next you can hold it tight by the base and give it a good shake to remove creases and fluff the fleece. DO NOT tumble dry or you will ruin your rug. Instead, place it over a clothes-line wool side out and folded in half so the skin is not exposed. Once the fleece is dry you can bring the hide back inside. Place it over a chair or recliner with the skin side up. AVOID DIRECT HEAT such as a fire, heater, or sunlight. Direct heat will cause the skin to harden. Every now and then when you walk past the sheepskin give it a good shake, this will help to keep it supple. A dog brush can be used to comb the fleece to re-fluff it.

Recommendation from Meridian Jacobs and Driftless Tannery that apply to Living Sky sheepskins:
General Maintenance: Wool is remarkable resilient and naturally stain resistant. Most dirt and debris can be easily removed from the fiber with a good brushing or shaking it outside like you would a small area rug. Wool that has become matted down from use can be revived with a good brushing or fluffing. Simply shaking it out by hand should sufficiently rid the hide of most dust and debris.
Spot Cleaning: You can use a spray bottle and lightly spray the stain or spot treat with a damp cloth. When wetting the wool, please make sure to spot clean in one direction, and avoid rubbing the area. Moisture + wool + agitation = felting!

NOTE from Robin: Washing any hide may change its character. Living Sky, Driftless, and Meridian Jacobs are not responsible for changes that occur from washing.
