Snow Day

It is raining here now…A LOT. The snow level in the mountains is moving higher, but during the last storm the snow levels were low and Pollock Pines, about an hour and a half away and at 3500’, got more than they have had in a long time. We drove up there to visit my son and DIL and go snowshoeing.

I guess it’s not that snow never happens here, its just that I don’t usually choose to go where there is snow. So this was an unusual sight for me. The snow doesn’t usually stick around this long at this elevation.

We put on snowshoes just outside the front door and started walking.

Kirin, the big dog, loves the snow.

We hiked across the private road and down the mountain towards Jenkinson Lake at Sly Park.

It was a spectacular day.

Snowy picnic tables.

Kaleena took the photos that I’m in. That’s me in the blue jacket and Matt is in green.

She commented “like mother, like son”.

When I saw this tree stump I immediately thought that it looked like the head of a giant cow. I don’t like it when I see rocks or stumps, etc as other objects (or hear what someone has named rock features) because I’d rather just see them as rocks or stumps. But don’t you agree that this looks like a cow head?

Selfie by me.

Kaleena took this one of Dan and me and the family photo below.

Kirin, who I think is about seven years old now.

On the way back up the mountain. Back at the house we sat by the wood stove and watched Free Solo and then finished the day with dinner out. Thanks Matt and Kaleena, for a great day.
